Costume, colour & music in a celebration of a turbulent history.
Friday 24th March sees the start of the 4th Hawick Reiver Festival that promises to be the biggest and best yet! The festival kicks off with a concert featuring local talent in song, music and dance on the Friday evening. "The Clanranald Trust" will make its first ever appearance in the Borders on Saturday 25th March . This living history group
brings with it a wealth of experience, costume, colour and lively music as the sites and sounds of the 16th century market
place come to life. You can see rough justice dispensed and join the witnesses at a Reiver Wedding as well as watching traditional crafts and
falconary skills displayed. The very popular "Hot Trod" torchlight procession and firework display will follow. Saturday rounds off with a concert featuring internationally known traditional fiddler Catriona Macdonald and Flash Company,
an exciting group of young traditional musicians from Newcastle University. This year the festival extends into Sunday 26th with a guided walk of Hawick's traditional Common Land and rounds off with
a talk by Alan Brydon on "The Keeper of Teviotdale - the story behind the tale" with high tea in Mansfield House Hotel. All in all a full weekend with something for all ages.
