Dog Fouling

Dog fouling is unpleasant, unpopular and a health hazard. Most dog owners are responsible and clean up after their dogs, but some don’t. It is the Council's policy to deal with those that do not.
It is the law that you must clean up after your dog. This means bagging the dog dirt and disposing of it. You can take it home and put it in your own bin or you can use public litter bins. Do not leave bagged dog dirt anywhere else.
The council dog wardens have been out enforcing the laws surrounding dog fouling. Between April 2008 and April 2009, the wardens have;
- Advised 5,259 people of their responsibilities regarding cleaning up after their dogs
- Issued 346 warnings
- Issued 126 fixed penalty tickets.
There has also been a comprehensive publicity campaign with adverts on the radio, on buses, on refuse vehicles and in the local press. Advice is available on these webpages, but anyone working in a school, sitting on committees or organising an event, who feels that the presence of a dog warden, or a presentation by a dog warden would be of benefit, please contact the team via the number below. The dog wardens can give presentations, answer questions and bring along bio-degradable dog fouling bags and posters.
