Keeping our streets clean
Dog fouling is unpleasant, unpopular and a health hazard. Most dog owners are responsible and clean up after their dogs, but some don't. It is our policy to deal with those that do not.
It is the law that you must clean up after your dog. This means bagging the dog dirt and disposing of it. You can take it home and put it in your own bin or you can use public litter bins. Do not leave bagged dog dirt anywhere else.
What every dog owner should know:
- Anyone who does not immediately clean-up fouling by a dog is committing an offence under the Dog Fouling (Scotland) Act 2003
- The law covers all public open spaces
- You must clean-up after your dog on pavements, roads, footpaths, parks, football pitches, communal land, back greens, stairs, closes and any other land that is open to the public.
- Dispose of your dog's faeces in your bin at home or in any public litter bin; do not leave it behind
- People who do not clean-up after their dog can receive a fixed penalty of £40 rising to £60 if not paid within 28 days
- SB staff and Police Officers can issue Fixed Penalty Notices
- We recognises that the majority of dog owners act responsibly and clean-up after their dogs - don't be in the minority
- Report dog fouling anonymously on 0300 100 1800
Dog fouling: there's no excuse. Bag it, tie it, bin it.
