Cultural Co-ordinator Programme

The 2007-09 Cultural Co-ordinator Programme is funded by the Scottish Government and managed by the Scottish Arts Council. It is a second, enhanced phase of the Cultural Co-ordinators in Scottish schools initiative which was established to offer opportunities for young people (both within and out with school hours) to see and take part in a broad range of cultural experiences including the performing and creative arts, literature, heritage, moving image and architecture.

Scottish Borders Council has a team of Cultural Co-ordinators.
Cultural Co-ordinator Manager - Lisa Denham
As manager of the Cultural Co-ordinator team Lisa will be building key strategic networks and partnership working, and will
liaise closely with the Scottish Arts Council to monitor and evaluate the programme.

Cultural Co-ordinator (Outreach) - Susanne Batchelor
The outreach programme aims to increase and enhance opportunities for children and young people to participate in a wide range
of cultural activities. Susanne will work closely with local theatres, museums/galleries, libraries, and archives to help
build and develop education and outreach programmes. Susanne will also liaise between the national companies and schools to
ensure that opportunities to participate in education and outreach activities are maximised.

Call for artists to work in Schools…
Living Room – Exploring Sense of Place in the Scottish Borders
The Cultural Co-ordinator Team at Scottish Borders Council are looking for 2 artists to work in schools in Peebles and Kelso as part of the Living Room project. The 2 projects will run from March – May 2010. Application deadline: Friday January 22nd 2010. More information and application procedure.
Bridge Builders - a new directory for artists in the Borders
We are calling on all artists and organisations who can work in educational settings to sign up to a new directory called ‘Bridge Builders’. The directory will be a reference tool for teachers and community groups who are looking to develop partnerships with artists or cultural providers to provide learning opportunities. Whether you are a musician, storyteller, textile artist, puppet maker or film maker, this directory will contain a wide range of useful information about your services. Using Films in the Classroom - British Film Institute Resources available (new August 2009)
The Cultural Co-ordinator team have purchased a selection of the British Film Institute resources and DVDs which will be available for teachers to hire from Langlee CPD Resource Library. These are excellent resources, which consist of DVD compilations of short films specially selected for the classroom, with accompanying teaching packs. Find out what resources are available. Opening Doors – Living Room: Exploring A Sense of Place in the Scottish Borders
A group of Standard Grade Art and Design Students from Peebles High School will officially open an exhibition of artwork they created in response to exploring the architecture of Peebles High Street. The project is part of Tweeddale Museum’s celebrations of 150 years of the Chambers Institution and is a partnership between Scottish Borders Council’s (SBC) Museum and Gallery Service and the Cultural Co-ordinator Programme. The exhibition called ‘Opening Doors – Living Room: Exploring A Sense of Place in the Scottish Borders’ will be open from 4 September – 30 October. It will be a chance for visitors to see the students’ artwork along with other objects from the museum collections. Tweeddale Museum opening hours are: Monday – Friday 10:30am to 12:30pm and 1pm to 4pm; Saturdays 9:30am to 12:30pm.
