Working in Partnership
Partnership Working in the Scottish Borders is encompassed within the New Ways Community Planning Framework.
The aims of Community Planning are to ensure a more joined up approach to service delivery by public agencies and to ensure that people and communities are actively engaged in decisions on the provision of public services. Under the Local Government Act 2003 Scottish Borders Council has a duty to initiate, facilitate and maintain the Community Planning process.
New Ways
The New Ways Community Planning partnership in the Scottish Borders provides a framework for putting people, communities, businesses and the environment at the heart of planning for prosperity in the Scottish Borders. The main objectives of New Ways are a:
-
stronger economy
-
thriving sustainable communities and
-
a sustainable future for the environment of the Scottish Borders.
Because New Ways is about collaborating, consulting and working with partners from a variety of sectors and in a variety of locations, a New Ways website has been created for this purpose. At www.scottishbordersnewways.co.uk (external website) you can find out more information about the purpose and structure of New Ways, as well as current projects and achievements through working in partnership.
Over the last three years, a number of New Ways strategies have been developed which require input from all the theme teams. These include:
- The New Ways Economic Strategy, with enterprise and innovation at its heart, and reflecting the key aims and aspirations of a Smart Successful Scotland at a regional level;
- The Environmental Strategy for the Scottish Borders;
- The New Ways Interim Housing Strategy; and
- A Regeneration Strategy targeted at developing and regenerating confidence and enterprise in some of the more deprived and disadvantaged communities in the Scottish Borders.
The Achievements of New Ways include:
- Progress on an approach to local integrated working with the Tweeddale Area Pilot underway
- Inter-agency Response to the re-location plans of Heriot-Watt University and Borders College
