Racial Equality
Aim
To contribute to the overall Community Safety agenda by promoting Race Equality throughout the Scottish Borders.
Objectives
- Co-ordinate within the New Ways approach of Statuary and Voluntary services in relation to Racial Equality within our communities.
- Co-ordinate the Race Relations Act within all participating groups and promote equality for all within ourcommunities.To promote and spread the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 to organisations within the Scottish Borders.
- Highlight "Best Practice" in terms of reducing the Fear and or the unknown element with minority groups within our communities.
- Act as a channel for the voice and aspirations of minority groups in the Scottish Borders.
Actions
- Continue to support and develop services for migrants.
- Increase the number of adults receiving English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) training. Develop, with NHS Borders and other partners, initiatives that give stronger support to gypsies and travellers.
- Ensure domestic abuse service provision meets the needs of women and specifically works towards eliminating barriers facing women from ethnic minority groups.
- Continue to develop the remote reporting service.
- Work to develop the capacity of more equality groups.
