Soft Drink and Drive Campaign
A key part of the Scottish Borders Community Safety Forum's long term strategy is to address issues which affect the quality of life of all sections of the Borders community, including those who suffer from the effects of drinking and driving.
In 2004 the Community Safety Forum launched the Soft Drink and Drive campaign at Charterhall Airfield. At this launch TV sports commentator Jill Douglas drove a dual controlled car through a slalom course after consuming a small amount of alcohol. This clearly illustrated that even a small amount of alcohol has an impact on a persons driving ability.
In this coming year, we are re-launching the campaign to strengthen the ethos of drinking only soft drinks when driving. The campaign, which will last a full 12 months will promote this sensible attitude and highlight the potential consequences to the public if they provide a positive breath test, for example, loss of license, potential loss of job and up to a £5000 fine.
To date the Community Safety Forum has received the full support from local petrol stations, pubs, restaurants, hotels, rugby clubs, supermarkets, off licences, taxi companies, car dealers and large businesses.
