Quick Summary Guide to National Lottery Funding
There are four main organisations in Scotland which distribute funds from the National Lottery. Each has its own programmes and funding priorities. Your project may be eligible for funding from one of the distributors. This guide will signpost you to the helpdesk/ websites of each distributor to find which one is most suited to your needs.
Heritage Lottery Fund

Provides grants for projects designed to preserve and enhance Scotland's heritage of buildings, objects and the environment.
In addition to conserving these assets, it supports projects which improve public access to them, helping people to appreciate,
understand and enjoy their heritage.
BIG Lottery Fund

Big Lottery Fund is the joint operating name of the New Opportunities Fund and the National Lottery Charities Board (which
made grants under the name of the Community Fund). The Big Lottery Fund, launched on 1st June 2004, is distributing half of
all National Lottery good cause funding across the UK.
The Big Lottery Fund is building on the experience and best practice of the merged bodies to simplify funding in those areas
where they overlap and to ensure Lottery funding provides the best possible value for money.
Scottish Arts Council

Provides grants starting from £2,000 for arts projects and £5,000 for buildings and equipment.
The arts include architecture, art centres and festivals, crafts, dance, drama, literature, music, photography, video, design
and visual arts.
Sportscotland

Dedicated to promoting sporting opportunities for Scots at all levels. Everything it does is driven by three visions: widening
opportunities, developing potential and achieving excellence. It makes awards to all aspects of Scottish sport including top
athletes, sports facilities, major events and youth sport.

This is an easy to access scheme supported by the Big Lottery Fund, the Scottish Arts Council, sportscotland and the Heritage
Lottery Fund. It offers a one-door approach for small grants from £500 to £10,000.
