Summary
The Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 was introduced as a result of the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry.  The aim is to make sure that public organisations such as ourselves take a positive approach to dealing with the public and delivering services.  We have drafted our Race Equality Scheme in which we show how we will meet the requirements of the legislation which are to:
  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination
  • Promote equality of opportunity and
  • Promote good relations between people of different racial groups.

It is intended that this Race Equality Scheme will ensure that we mainstream race equality and place it at the centre of all functions and policymaking, service delivery, regulation, enforcement and employment practices.
