Transforming Older Peoples' Services

Scottish Borders Council has just completed the first stage of a wide ranging review of services for older people.

It is predicted that the number of people aged over 75 will almost double in the Borders in the next 20 years.  We know that most older people want help to stay at home for as long as possible.  Expectations of services are rising and people are looking for high standards of care to support them in their later years.

The review proposes a mixture of some new services, adapting existing services for new purposes and continuing some traditional services although on a smaller scale.

All of the work of the review has been done in partnership with NHS Borders, the Voluntary Sector, users of our services and their carers.
