Visit us to find out about your family, the lives of Border people and their communities and how they have changed through the centuries.  Discover the Borders of the past, in our state of the art facility where we have all you need to help you with your search!

General information

The collections at the Heritage Hub include material relating to:

• Families and local communities

• Census, births, marriages and deaths

• Land ownership from the 16th Century

• Local business records including textile, fishing and farming industries

• Government, law and order, and schools

• Famous Borderers, such as Sir Walter Scott, Mungo Park and James Hogg.

Our staff can help with:

• Research

• Guidance on depositing records

• Preservation and storing your own records

• Talks and visits to the archive

• Curriculum sources and education packs

• Exhibitions

Visiting the archives

  • Everyone is welcome to visit the archives. 
  • Visitors to the Hub will benefit from a comfortable searchroom with capacity for twenty researchers. 
  • Booking in advance for research space is also advised.

On your first visit to the Archive 

  • Please bring two forms of identification, one of which must be photographic.

Monday 10am - 4:45pm

Tuesday 10am - 7:45pm

(Wednesday pre-arranged tours and talks only)

Thursday 10am - 7:45pm

Friday 10am - 4:45pm

Saturday 10am - 4:45pm (closed 1-2pm)
