General Information on Environmental Health

Checking local air quality

What we do:

Environmental Health reduces risk and eliminates the danger to human health associated with the living and working environment. To do this, it inspects all food premises to ensure that food is stored and prepared in a proper manner. It also carries out a health and safety enforcement role in Local Authority enforced premises to ensure working conditions for employees in premises are satisfactory, and that conditions are safe for both staff and customers

It samples and advises on private water supplies to ensure the potability of the water for drinking purposes and deals with any queries regarding contaminated land and its remediation.

The section carries out investigation into air quality, deals with the removal of any abandoned vehicles and investigates and deals with any noise or public health complaints, stray dogs and pest control.  It also enforces the national smoking ban and deals with the disposal of the dead where there are no relatives to take responsibility.
