Principal Role:

Ensure that all plant and vehicles comply with legal requirements, are fully roadworthy, properly maintained and are driven with due care. Manage the Council's Operators Licence.  Carry out driver assessment and training courses for all portfolios Purchase and issue of fuels at all locations for all Council departments. Provide vehicle and plant breakdown and recovery 24 hour 365 days per year

Impact on Public Safety:

The plant and some vehicles used by the Council are specialist pieces of equipment, capable of causing serious injury or damage if not handled and maintained correctly. The Service ensures that such plant and vehicles are maintained in accordance with manufacturers' instruction and advice and operators are properly trained in their use.

In addition, the Service maintains vehicles used for the carriage of passengers, which need to be maintained and driven to a high standard to ensure the safety of those passengers.
