General Service Statistics:

  • Approximately 65% of the local bus service mileage in the Borders operates under contract to the Council
  • 79.5% of Borders households have access to an hourly or better frequency weekday local bus service
  • 6 demand-responsive taxibus services in operation at the end of February 2008
  • 4,900 school pupils and College students transported free of charge
  • 9 minibuses available for hire by schools and approved voluntary sector groups
  • 2,200 “Blue Badge” disabled parking permits issued annually
  • Operation of a fleet of 43 buses carrying out contract work for Education and Lifelong Learning and Social Work

Principal Roles:

Oversee the provision of passenger transport services taking in to account legislative and local policy requirements including:.

  • The provision of socially important bus services (the majority of bus services in the Borders)
  • Provision of bus passenger information
  • The provision of free school and social work transport as managed services for the Education and Lifelong Learning and Lifelong Care portfolios.
  • Operation of an in house fleet of minibuses undertaking some contract work.
  • Administering the National Entitlement Card scheme for free Concessionary Travel and Blue Badge disabled parking permits for those eligible in the Scottish Borders

Safety of the travelling public is considered paramount to all activities
