General Information on Lighting and Communications

Street lights and weather station communications equipment at Kelso

What we do:

Adequate and suitable lighting is essential in public places in times of darkness to provide security for the public and safety on roads and footpaths for travellers. To this end, the service provides and maintains lighting on streets and other public places for the purposes of public safety, road safety and general security. It also provides closed circuit television in town centres for the prevention and detection of crime, operated in partnership with Lothian and Borders Police. The section is currently responsible for the dressing of town centre Christmas trees in some towns, but not for other types of festive decoration.
