- Around 600Km of underground cables
- Energy consumption of approx 6,800,000kW hrs
- 58 CCTV cameras in 8 towns
- Floodlighting for some public buildings & statues together with 3 Abbeys
- Lighting for 10 official Christmas trees
- 15 sets of permanent traffic signals
- 453 mobile telephones (for departmental communications
Principal Role:
Provision and maintenance of lighting on streets and other public places for the purposes of public safety, road safety and general security. Provision of closed circuit television in town centres for the prevention and detection of crime, operated in partnership with Lothian and Borders Police
Impact on Public Safety:
Street Lighting - Adequate and suitable lighting is essential in public places in times of darkness to provide security for the public and safety on roads and footpaths for travellers
CCTV - Scottish Borders Council owns 8 town centre systems. The Police operate them on the Councils behalf to aid in the prevention and detection of crime.
Festive Lighting - This section is currently responsible only for the dressing of town centre Christmas trees in some towns
