  • Responsibility for 45 grills and other watercourse apparatus

Principal Role:

To carry out assessments of watercourses in the Borders area where they are likely to affect developed land (i.e. towns and villages) and instruct cleansing operations where it appears that the watercourse is in a condition likely to cause flooding. Prepare and publish a biennial report. Offer advice in relation to planning consents where they are likely to have an effect on flooding.

Impact on Public Safety:

Flooding from rivers and watercourses can occur from time to time and with many of the Borders towns and villages located at or near rivers, a number of communities are at risk during periods of heavy rainfall.
