Flood Protection
General Information on Flood Protection
What we do:
Flooding from rivers and watercourses can occur from time to time and with many of the Borders towns and villages located at or near rivers, a number of communities are at risk during periods of heavy rainfall. The Flood Protection section carries out assessments of watercourses in the Borders area where they are likely to affect developed land (i.e. towns and villages) and instructs cleansing operations where it appears that the watercourse is in a condition likely to cause flooding. The section also prepares and publishes a biennial report and offers advice in relation to planning consents where they are likely to have an effect on flooding.
