Building Standards

The Building Standards vision is to: "Provide safe buildings utilising minimum energy with no pollution"

The Building Standards mission is to:

  • secure the health, the safety and the welfare of people in and around new, modified or existing buildings through the building warrant process, enforcement powers and liaison with other departments and partners,
  • address the needs of people with a disability and in their use of buildings,
  • aid an improvement in the environment through the conservation of fuel and energy,
  • seek to eliminate pollution, by ensuring that buildings are designed and built to meet minimum building standards, in partnership with other control authorities,
  • facilitate the achievement of minimum physical standards within Houses in Multiple Occupation, Sports Grounds and Licensed Premises.
  • facilitate an improvement in the condition of the buildings within our Border towns and villages (Buildings Condition Survey in Border Towns),
  • provide information to house buyers, and others, on building compliance with current and/or previous building standards.
