Economic Development and Regeneration
The Economic Development and Regeneration Service provides a large range of services to the people of the Scottish Borders. It is responsible for a number of areas which include looking after paths, our countryside, historic sites and buildings as well as encouraging the development of the local economy. The Service is split into four parts.
The Economic Development team makes sure land and industrial units are available to local businesses and assists social enterprises. This section is also involved in various issues ranging from those relating to farming, fishing (including a new marine management approach, the Scottish Sustainable Marine Environment Initiative) and forestry to European funding, events strategy (including eventful) and tourism matters.
The Countryside and Heritage section maintains and develops paths, leads guided walks and encourages access to the countryside. The section also deals with natural and built heritage issues such as the development of the Woodland Strategy and Habitat Action Plans; protection of trees; landscape design; protection and interpretation of archaeological sites; building conservation and development of the Border Towns Initiative.
