Business support

The Economic Development section at Scottish Borders Council supports the development of small and medium sized enterprises in a number of ways.

The business support provided by the Economic Development section at Scottish Borders Council is driven by the local economic development strategy and is underpinned by the Local Government in Scotland Act 2003 which provides general powers to promote and improve well-being.

We support the development of small and medium sized enterprises in a number of ways:

  • by working in partnership with, and providing funding for, Scottish Enterprise (SE) projects.
  • by working with SEB in wider partnership, for example
  • Livewire Competition with  Prince's Scottish Youth Business Trust (PSYBT)
  • Royal Bank of Scotland/ PSYBT awards
  • by working with the Business Gateway which offers Scottish Borders’ businesses a single point of access to information and publicly funded services.
  • by supporting the Scottish Borders Export Club (external website). This is an independent group of business people involved with or interested in exporting. It is recognised as a key forum for discussion between organisations interested in promoting export related activities.

More information on business rates  and the Small Business Bonus Scheme is available.
