Economic Development services
The aim of the economic development service is to encourage an active and varied economy in the Scottish Borders.
The key activities are to:
- Influence the Scottish Borders economy through the development and implementation of the process
- Support small and medium-sized businesses and ensure the supply of appropriate industrial land and property
- Assist social enterprises
- Raise the profile of the Scottish Borders, its products, and its premises through various marketing and promotion initiatives , including supporting the Scottish Borders Export Club (external website)
- Co-ordinate the Council's tourism related activities and manage the Council’s programme of events
- Maximise the value and effectiveness of European Funds invested in the Scottish Borders
- Develop and influence economic and rural development policy and strategy (such as the Scottish Borders Regional Economic Strategy), including regeneration
- Provide statistics and information e.g. unemployment, employment, population, etc.
