Scottish Borders Event Strategy
Working together to develop the reputation of the Scottish Borders as an excellent host for a wide variety of events: from small regional to major international, celebrating the area's unique culture, heritage and landscape.
Events are acknowledged as an important part of the social and economic life of a community, creating celebrations with the potential to enrich the lives of residents while promoting the area to visitors. The natural environment of the Scottish Borders is a strong 'arena' for our events. Alongside a strong sense of identity and local culture, it creates exciting event ideas and opportunities. The Scottish Borders community create and host hundreds of events each year. A uniquely high proportion are organised by local volunteer teams. Enormous potential exists to support the development of these whilst encouraging new events to the area. The area already has a strong partnership approach to event support between local public sector organisations, event organisers and private suppliers. This strength has created the New Ways Event Innovation Scheme (NWEIS), working together to develop a co-ordinated response to local event support. Through this project, a momentum has developed. This strategy should now give direction to continuing to move forward towards our vision. The Scottish Borders Event Strategy has been created with the input of Scottish Borders Council, Scottish Enterprise Borders, VisitScotland Borders, Forestry Commission Scotland, EventScotland, Scottish Borders Event Forum and representatives from our key events and venues.Based within the Economic Development Section, the Event Officer (Strategy Development) will co-ordinate the implementation of the Scottish Borders Events Strategy:
