Updates
New Legislation
On 26 March 2006 the law on smoking in Scotland changed. From this day onwards smoking will no longer be allowed in certain wholly or substantially enclosed pubic places (has a roof and walls on at least 50% of the perimeter). There are very few exemptions, this will effect most public premises and therefore the events held in them. Failure to comply will be a criminal offence, with the smoker and the person in charge of the premises open to fixed penalty fines. More information is available on www.clearingtheairscotland.com

Questions recently received from local event organisers:
Q: I am running a conference and exhibition next year, the delegates will be paying fees, do I need a public entertainment license?
A: Click for full information on public entertainment licenses. A public entertainment license is not generally required for a closed conference. Your exhibition does not need to be licensed separately if only visited by your conference delegates. However, if members of the public are allowed entry, and pay a fee, a public entertainment license would be needed. Please always check your specific cases with your local licensing officer.
