Peebles, the old County town of the District of Peeblesshire, enjoys the title of "Royal Ancient Burgh of Peebles".

It nestles in the soft rolling hills of the Borders, with the River Tweed meandering its way through the town.

Peebles is an attractive town with a wonderful array of individual shops which draw visitors from near and far. Being only 25 miles from Edinburgh, it is ideally situated for the traveller.

The Registration Office is located in the Council Offices at the Chambers Institution on the town's main High Street. The Registration Office can be found immediately off the inner quadrangle in front of the impressive County War Memorial and beautiful gardens, where there is exclusive parking for the Bride's car during marriage ceremonies (by previous arrangement with the Registrar).

The Marriage Room is steeped in history, being the Old Council Chambers Room of Peebles Town Council prior to 1975. The room is a lovely wood panelled room and is full of character. A large antique table, around which the Town Council used to meet, dominates the centre of the room, which also features a most impressive stone fireplace crowned with a magnificent clock.

Other licensed marriage venues are shown below. Couples wishing to be married in a Civil Ceremony, at a personal location not registered with the Local Authority, can apply to the Authority for that location to be temporarily registered, thus enabling their marriage to be conducted by a Registrar at their special venue.

Marriage and Civil Partnership ceremonies can be held Monday to Saturday by arrangement with the Registrar.

Ceremonies can now also be held on a Sunday. Please contact the Registrar to discuss this.
