Contact details for Lauder

Scottish Borders District, Lauder

A warm welcome awaits you in the Border town of Lauder.

Lauder, the main town in Lauderdale rests at the foot of the Lammermuir Hills.

Lauder was awarded Royal Burgh status in the 12th Century.  This was confirmed by the Charter of Novadamus in 1502.

It is now designated as an outstanding conservation area, lying on the route of the Southern Upland Way, and overlooked by the fairytale Thirlestane Castle, well worth visiting.

The Registration Office is tucked under the Town Hall in the imposing tollbooth, a Category B listed building in the centre of the town.  The barrel vaulted room used to be one of the old jails.  Though small this venue oozes character.

The Marriage Room can accommodate 10 seated and is surprisingly cosy and quaint, an ideal location for an intimate wedding. Other licensed marriage venues are shown below. Wedding couples can also obtain their own licences for other venues of their choice, including unusual locations.
