Hawick is found "Where Slitrig dances doon the glen". The River Slitrig runs through the ancient mill town on it's way to join the mighty Tweed.
Hawick is a fine town with a long history in the hosiery industry and is famous for it's cashmere. The largest town in the Borders, Hawick is at the hub of the traditional Border's festivals, the Common Ridings, when once a year, all the young men ride around the town's boundaries.
The Registration Office in Hawick is situated within the main Council buildings in the town's bustling High Street.
For small intimate weddings, the Marriage Room can accommodate approximately 16 guests. For larger weddings, the Council Chamber may be hired for a small fee. Located under the town clock, the Council Chamber is a large, high ceilinged, wood-panelled room, with portraits of former Council dignitaries gracing the walls. A main feature of this impressive room is the beautiful horseshoe shaped table at which marriage ceremonies are conducted.
An exciting alternative is to hold your wedding ceremony in Drumlanrig Tower, a newly re-furbished hsitoric tower, for which there is also a small fee. Other licensed marriage venues are shown below. Wedding couples can also obtain their own licences for other venues of their choice, including unusual locations.

Marriage and Civil Partnership ceremonies can be held Monday to Saturday by arrangement with the Registrar.
Ceremonies can now also be held on a Sunday. Please contact the Registrar to discuss this.
