Set in an area of rolling hills and deep flowing rivers, Newcastleton is steeped in history with a past which is both romantic and dramatic.
Mary Queen of Scots met her lover the Earl of Bothwell at Hermitage Castle, a formidable fortress which has witnessed many a battle between the Scots and English in times gone by.
The Marriage Room can accommodate up to 10 seated. This cosy room is ideal for an intimate wedding and is situated within the Registrar's home, the last Parlour Registration Office in the Scottish Borders.
Wedding couples can also obtain their own licences for other venues of their choice, including unusual locations.

Marriage and Civil Partnership ceremonies can be held Monday to Saturday by arrangement with the Registrar.
Ceremonies can now also be held on a Sunday. Please contact the Registrar to discuss this.
There are currently no licensed civil marriage venues
