The Council is committed to working together with its partners to provide leadership in the Borders co
mmunity and to deliver better public services based on effective community engagement processes and a clear understanding
of needs. The Council's partners include a range of relevant public sector, voluntary and private sector organisations in
the Scottish Borders. This way of working together is known as Community Planning.
As well as working together with our partners, Community Planning also means:
- listening to you and the people in your communities
- understanding your various needs
- involving you and your communities in the decisions made about public services
In the Scottish Borders, the Council and its partners have agreed a Community Planning process called New Ways to work together in partnership with each other and our communities.
The Business Improvement Unit is responsible for supporting the New Ways Partnership - Community Planning process. We do this by:
- co-ordinating the work of the New Ways Forum and Project Group
- working with the New Ways inter-agency Themes (there are six of these) and Support groups (there are four of these)
- assisting the Council's Chief Executive lead the New Ways Project team, the delivery of the Community Safety strategy and the encouragement of a joint approach to community capacity development
- leading the New Ways External Funding support group
- co-ordinating New Ways consultation with people living in the Scottish Borders through the Peoples Panel
- developing Social Justice and Community Engagement Strategies
